Tequila Sheela originates from the highlands of Amatitán in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Amatitán is known for producing the highest quality blue agave resulting in the sweetest and most premium tequila in the world. The agave used to produce Sheela is grown in soil that contains no pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, and no additives making Sheela 100% USDA organic. The soil is tested annually by Bioagricert S.r.l., a certified body of organic production, to ensure compliance and achievement of USDA organic standards.
Sheela agave is hand-planted at precise distances for optimum growth. It will mature for up to eight years in the natural, organic environment. The harvest of the agave is performed by hand. The piña is the heart of the agave and the source of the unique flavor of Sheela, they are slowly baked in a traditional brick oven known as a horno for a full 24 hours. Following baking, they are then shredded in order to extract the natural juices of the plant. The agave juice spends five days in open-air stainless steel vats to allow for natural fermentation. Distillation is achieved by introducing heat to the fermented juice in stainless steel columns known as towers. All Sheela is twice distilled in small batches to achieve a clean and enjoyable flavor and a quality product with a superior taste.
