Well, I most definitely did and was always envious of them! But then I found out these people were called liquor brand ambassadors. They seemed to work flexible hours, had a nice hourly pay, and always seemed genuinely happy. I was jealous and wanted to join them, but I wondered: what exactly is a liquor brand ambassador?
After consulting Google, I understood a liquor brand ambassador to be “a person who is hired by an organization or company to represent a [liquor] brand in a positive light and by doing so help to increase brand awareness and sales.”
Oh, sales is involved--but so is alcohol, and I like alcohol. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and give it shot. I searched online for reputable marketing and promotion companies, and eventually found Dragon Spirits Marketing, based out of Austin, TX.
Even though the role was sales-based, no previous sales experience was required. Dragon Spirits Marketing typically paid out $17-$20/hour + commissions and extensive training was offered. They taught me how to “sell well and have fun”. And because alcohol was the primary product, it didn’t feel like sales. Rather, I felt I was making new friends and sharing the good news of new-to-the-market, high quality liquor!
Why Do Liquor Distilleries Need Them?
Aside from a logistics standpoint, brand new distilleries need a channel to get their product in front of consumers. There is not a better way to acquire feedback than from having consumers taste test the liquor directly. These opportunities also allow liquor brand ambassadors to share the stories behind the new distilleries and explain why these artisanal brands were initially formulated.
This branding process has to be repeated over and over again in order for new distilleries to begin gaining traction in the competitive liquor market. And for that reason, there is a large demand for passionate liquor brand ambassadors!
How To Get Started
I personally owe much to Dragon Spirits Marketing and the individuals that work so hard behind the scenes. Now, I have a chance to share my excitement of new liquor products with others, I have extra pocket money--and as a nice perk, I get the keep the opened bottle after the tasting! Woot! Party at my house afterwards!
